Joshua 2:1-21; 6:22-25; Matthew1:5 and Hebrews 11:31 My name is Rahab. I come from the city of Jericho, which had a huge wall around it with a big locked gate. Like a lot of the houses my home was built into the wall. The people of my city were sinful people, but they had heard about the great God who had dried up the Red Sea to let His people walk across on dry land to escape being slaves of the Egyptians!!!! The king and all of the people were so afraid of God's people that they never went outside of the city! When the king of Jericho heard that there were spies from God's people inside our city, he sent soldiers to search for them! They searched every house. When they came to my house…these men were there, but I hid them, for I knew that they were good men and served the one and only living God! When the soldiers had finished searching my house…and did not find them…I asked these men to spare my family if they attacked my city. They promised me that if I would hand a scarlet ribbon in my window that everyone inside my home would be spared. When they had made me this promise, I lowered them out of my window to the outside wall. I told them to hide in the woods until our soldiers stopped searching and then to return to their people. As they had told me to do, I hung the scarlet ribbon in my window. When the people of God surrounded the city and blew their trumpets it was a fearsome sound!!! The huge walls of Jericho just crumbled to the ground by the power of God!!! Just as I had been promised, all of my family inside my house was saved! My belief in God and my action to prove my belief saved me and my family! And there is even more to my story. God let Jesus, the savior of the world, be born into my family. Could anything be better than that? God is great and good. It is wonderful to be able to trust His every promise! You must love God and trust him…and He will always be with you, too!!! If you would like to read more about my story, then turn in your Bibles to Joshua. I would like to ask you some questions about our story. |
